God, The creative God

God is a creative God. We see this from the first line of scripture, “In the beginning God created.” He imagined all the colors, earth surfaces, phases of matter, animals, natural elements, physical motions, laws of physics, and mankind. His creative process did not stop at the beginning though.

Through the course of history, God inspired and used men to create scripture. God’s book is filled with story and history, tragedy and comedy, metaphors and facts. God’s creative acts continues today too. The psalmist tells us in Psalm 139:13 that He, “knits us in our mother's womb.” The same hands that wove the fabric of creation, sewed us together. Scripture is, “living and active.” Its words may stay the same, but the Spirit applies it to our lives in new, personal, creative ways. In the future, God will create a new heaven and new earth and he will give us new songs to sing. God is in the business of creating.

What’s more is that God created us in His image. This means that, among many other things, we are to be a creative people. We are invited to join Him in creating things. God could have invented a lightbulb at the beginning of time, but instead he let His creation play in His world and discover new and wonderful things. God is worshiped when we create. The Psalms give us 150 ancient songs to sing, but also extols us to “sing a new song.” The writer should write, the dancer should dance, the inventor should invent, the musician should play, following in the example of God the creator, all unto His glory.

• Worship Team: Did God gift you musically? Prayerfully consider joining the worship team. It’s our desire to fill the platform with joyful Jesus loving musicians. • Tech Team: Celebrations would look and sound a lot different without the tech team using their creative gifts for the body. If you are interested in sound, video, and lighting, this team is for you. If you have questions or don't feel equipped, don't worry! We provide the necessary training so you can serve joyfully! • The Creative Collective: The creative collective is a new ministry team whose goal is to bring the arts to New Life in more meaningful ways. This includes music, art, drama, poetry, set design, and any other creative art you can think of. If you have artistic skills or are great at brainstorming new ideas, this group is for you.
